If the death occurred in hospital
- The hospital issues the death certificate; ask for a copy.
- Storage time in the hospital mortuary is limited; call us for the transfer and we will collect the deceased in a refrigerated vehicle.
- Keep the deceased's ID card or passport and any insurance details to hand.
If the death occurred at home, in a hotel or elsewhere
- Call 112; a doctor will attend and confirm the death. If there are no suspicious circumstances, the municipal physician issues the death certificate.
- If the case is judicial, the prosecutor's procedure begins; an autopsy may be carried out and the process takes longer. We are with you at this stage too.
- An official document is required to move the deceased; the deceased cannot be collected until it has been issued.
If the deceased was a foreign national
- The consulate of their country must be informed; we can make this call for you if you wish.
- If there is travel insurance, health insurance or an assistance company, find the policy; the cost of repatriation is often covered.
- If you want to bring the deceased home, the steps on the 'From Turkey abroad' page apply.
If your relative died abroad
- Call the Turkish consulate in that country, or call us; we can handle the correspondence with the consulate.
- If there is a funeral fund membership or insurance, the fund's contracted funeral director carries out the transfer as far as Turkey.
- For collection in Turkey, transfer to the city and burial, see the 'From abroad to Turkey' page.
What not to do
- Do not move the deceased without an official document.
- Do not separate the ID card or passport from the deceased; it is needed for the procedures.
- Do not work with anyone who gives a verbal price but will not provide a written quote.
If you are not sure what to do, call us; we will answer your questions and, if needed, set off.
