Funeral Services for Non-Muslims

We serve people of every faith who die in Turkey. Preparation and repatriation are carried out according to the family's faith and wishes; we help make contact with the relevant community, church or synagogue for the religious ceremony.

For Christian families

  • The deceased is prepared and dressed according to the family's wishes; embalming is required for international transport.
  • We help make contact with churches and congregations in Istanbul for the service and prayers.
  • For repatriation, the coffin is chosen according to the family's wishes and the rules of the destination country.

For Jewish families

  • Preparation is carried out in coordination with the community (chevra kadisha) designated by the family.
  • Document procedures are followed up as a priority so that the transfer can take place promptly.
  • We help make contact with the community in Istanbul.

Other faiths and families without a religion

  • The family's wishes come first; a religious ceremony is not required.
  • Cremation is not possible in Turkey; for families who wish for cremation, the deceased is repatriated to their home country and we coordinate with the funeral director there.

What you should know

There are no cremation facilities in Turkey.

If burial in Turkey is wanted, there are non-Muslim cemeteries in Istanbul; a grave plot is arranged with the relevant community and the municipality.

Consulates usually keep a list of funeral directors for their own nationals; the process is carried out in line with the consulate.
