Syria - Turkey Funeral Repatriation
There is a large Syrian community living in Istanbul and across Turkey. For the repatriation of Syrian nationals who die in Turkey, we handle the death certificate, embalming, coffin and transit permit procedures. The transfer is usually made by road; which border crossing is used and the crossing procedures depend on the current situation. Written communication is available in Arabic.
Process for this country
- The death certificate and the multilingual death certificate extract (Formule C) are issued; the procedures are carried out with the deceased's passport, identity card or temporary protection document.
- Ritual washing, shrouding and embalming are carried out; a sealed coffin is prepared and the burial transit permit is obtained.
- The road transfer to the border crossing is planned; details are shared with the relative or funeral director who will receive the deceased on the other side. An air option is considered case by case.

For the transfer to the destination city within Syria, a handover plan is made with a funeral director or relative on the other side.
