Germany - Turkey Funeral Repatriation
Germany - Turkey is one of the busiest funeral repatriation routes. Turkish families living in Germany are usually members of a funeral fund; in that case the fund's contracted funeral director in Germany carries out the transfer as far as Turkey. We take over collection in Istanbul, transfer to the city of burial and the municipal procedures. We also repatriate residents of Germany who die in Turkey.
Process for this country
- From Germany to Turkey: we exchange flight and document details with the funeral director or fund in Germany; we receive the deceased at Istanbul Airport, transfer them to the city and coordinate the burial.
- From Turkey to Germany: the death certificate, the multilingual death certificate extract (Formule C), the embalming certificate and the burial transit permit are issued; a handover plan is agreed with the funeral director in Germany and the deceased is sent by air cargo.

- For a deceased arriving from Germany: the German death certificate (Sterbeurkunde) and the Turkish consulate's transfer document
- For a deceased leaving Turkey: Formule C, embalming certificate, burial transit permit and a letter of acceptance from the funeral director in Germany
Points to note
If there is a funeral fund membership in Germany, call the fund first; its contracted funeral director starts the transfer. We handle the domestic transfer and burial that fall outside the cover.

The times given are typical ranges; they can change depending on how quickly the authorities, the airline and the consulate process each step. An autopsy, a judicial procedure or a public holiday will extend them.
