Azerbaijan - Turkey Funeral Repatriation
There is considerable travel between Azerbaijan and Turkey for visits, medical treatment and residence. We repatriate Azerbaijani nationals who die in Turkey to Baku and other cities, and bring relatives who die in Azerbaijan to Turkey. We can communicate in Turkish.
Process for this country
- The death certificate and the multilingual death certificate extract (Formule C) are issued; the transfer documents are obtained from the Azerbaijani consulate.
- Ritual washing, shrouding and embalming are carried out; a sealed coffin is prepared.
- The deceased is sent by air cargo to Baku; the receiving relative or funeral director is informed.

Points to note
There are daily flights between Istanbul and Baku; if the documents are complete, the process is usually short.
When a relative who has died in Azerbaijan is brought to Turkey, a handover plan is agreed with the funeral director there.
The times given are typical ranges; they can change depending on how quickly the authorities, the airline and the consulate process each step. An autopsy, a judicial procedure or a public holiday will extend them.
